  • Definitely not as it's portrayed. At one time it was, but nowadays it's a good bit more progressive than some cities. One reason is that the towns are so small there's much more intermingling of the races than in a city where you can have huge sections that contain almost exclusively one race or nationality. I'm from the South and it really hurts me that southerners aren't credited with the advancements they've made in race relations since the 1960's. As far as being conservative, it just depends on the individual. Southerners have working brains, just like other Americans, and they form a huge variety of opinions about politics. They aren't all of a single mind, no matter what Hollywood, northern newspapers and the rest of the media say.
  • Hell yes. Also mean and hostle. But the killer sweet tea makes me love her with everything I am. Rally I do....;+
  • No, not as bad as it used to be. You can't say the whole south is like that, but to give you perspective, a lot of McCain votes came from people 60 years and older that lived in the south.
  • Whites in the South like Blacks as individuals. Whites in the North like Blacks as a race. People in the South are very friendly. When I visit New York, for example, everyone seems downright hostile. Conservative has many meanings. People in the South are practical and have common sense. Your mileage may vary. All sorts of people live everywhere but that is the regional trend. IMHO
