    The only required ingredient is juniper berries (in fact, "gin" derives from "genever", the Dutch word for juniper). Other ingredients are used to alter the flavor; you can find gin seasoned with as different things as anise, coriander, lime, licorice or bitter almonds.

    (Some of the flavor also depends on the type of "neutral" spirit used.)
