It depends how old you mean by old. I feel that, in general, very old people are more dangerous than young drivers.
-
Drunk people.
-
I think its a combination of both. I recently road with my 17 year old sister and she scared the crap out of me. I have a 70+ grandmother that I will NOT ride with.
-
Both, for different reasons. The very young are dangerous because they lack the judgment that experience gives drivers; The old because all that experience has made them so cautious that they become an obstacle on the road.
-
From my experience.. it has been the majority of older people who have been the worse drivers. The first thoughts that come to mind are certain incidents of bad driving and they were older drivers. I had one lady hit me not once, but twice in the McDonalds drive thru. I let it go the first time and the second time I was so stunned I did not even get out and she whirled out from behind me and drove off. I would have to think hard on having had a bad incident with a young driver.. nothing comes to mind.

There is a trend towards both, but it also has a lot to do with the individual driver. This question forces me to generalise however, so I will say Younger Boys and Older Ladies are the worst. Anybody in between, the sex doesn't matter, it's whether they drive a BMW or not.

young people show off, take risks when they cant assess them properly, lack skills to cope with the dangerous situation like in the wet when your back spins out from under you. while the old people are just so slow.... or there eye sight isnt what it used to be, they hesitate, The biggest problem i think they face is hitting the accelerator instead of the breaks while parking lol (ive seen afew try to park on the main street and they accelerate over the curb and into the front of the shope, over 3 and ahalf meters of footpath Also alot of old people Cause the crashes and the young to middle aged people often have accidents trying to avoid this old people.
-
as stableboy said, some young do take more risks on the road than they should, but also so do some of the elders... a lot of elders don't want to give up on life, and to do this they feel that they can do a lot of things they can't... they don't want to depemd on others to do things for them or feel sorry for them, so they take a lot of risks that they probably shouldn't as well... but the same goes for middle aged people as well... we are just as dangerous on the road as the next person.... you never know who or what the person in the car next to you is capable of... or what distractions they have in their own vehicle... therefore cautiousism is something only you can practice behind the wheel... worry about yourslf... and watch all the cars on the road... but make sure your main focus is the road in front of you, and that you are being as careful as you possibly can be without worrying too much about others... accidents happen every day and really the only thing a person can do is hope for best every time they pull out of the driveway!

Statistically, younger drivers cause more accidents per capita, but both can pose dangers. Young people can gain experience. Old people will never get younger, but there are ways that they can become safer.
-
This is the classic system you see with any components, known to engineers as the "bathtub curve". Start out making a lot of mistakes, which falls off rapidly as the driver learns, then a long flat period of relatively safe driving, then a slower rise as the drive gets older and senses and reactions both get poorer. Because young drivers all have a minimal standard, whereas older drivers are not retested unless they have an accident, the worst single driver is probably an old person. On the other hand, because it is a gradual process for old people whereas young people are dumped straight on the road as soon as they pass their test, the larger number of bad drivers are probably young.
-
Old, every time. At least young people normally get a move on.I dont think all these 80-90 year olds should even be on the roads
-
In my experience, both have equally bad habits that make them dangerous at times.
-
Stupid people, more specifically, most people.
-
Both for different reasons. Someone else mentioned that young drivers have more accidents per capita, but older drivers have the highest number of fatalities per capita (at last check anyway). Young drivers lack skill and judgment due to inexperience. Older drivers have a myriad of things that could impact their ability to drive. Most of which simply the by-products of ageing. Neither one is worse since both present significantly different hazzards to themselves and others.

Hate to say it but OLD people. My grandpa swerves all of the road looks out his window and almost killing us. They forget to look over their shoulder when they are backing up. My 16 year old seems to be more careful it might be because if he wrecks my tahoe I will kill him!

It depends a lot on the person. Some young people understand the responsibility it is to drive and drive carefully. Others think its cool to race up and down heavily trafficed main street in town. I would say old people are more reliabiably dangerous. But a young person with the wrong attitude is more dangerous then an old person any day.
