Some people really benefit from it and rise high in their business careers because OCD behavior makes a person double-check the accuracy of their work, keep a nice-looking work area, etc. thereby being a good & valuable employee. The real questions are: does it bother you? and does it make it in any way difficult for your friends? And a lot of it depends on the strength of the compulsion in your particular case. Don't be discouraged if you answer "yes." Just consider talking to a doctor or couselor if you decide you want to change your behavior. Good luck. And your keeping things clean is probably good for your health.

I have OCD. I am not a psychiatrist so I will not try to diagnose you here. Whether or not your behavior is healthy is largely for you to determine. You have already taken a huge step by recognizing that there MAY be a problem. Now you must decide if you feel what you are doing is interfering with your life. When my OCD started interfering with my life, I sought help. With the right combination of medicine and counseling, my obsessions are not anywhere near as strong as they used to be. If you believe OCD is interfering with your life, then I would advise seeking an expert medical opinion to diagnose your situation. You may not have OCD. There may be nothing wrong with you but, if there is, it could be a very serious medical condition. Good luck with your decision. Also, if you feel comfortable, please post a comment on what you decided to do.
