If on probation period, bad idea, unless you are really sick or someone in your family is and needs you and only you to deal with their issue. After probationary period things change, slightly, depending on who you work for. Many companies have x number of sick days, some have vacation days that you can 'tap' during the year, others even have family leave days to deal with 'family stuff' and even more time should someone in your family die.
