Why do so many depressed or abused people come to AB for "help" instead of finding someone who can actually help them? Are they all trolls, or are they just afraid to really get help?

I think they like the anonymity of AB. The are probably afraid too.

People need more than weekly visits with a shrink when they are down. Most ABers are pretty friendly and most are here to support, encourage and help if they can. That's the purpose of the site.

I honestly find that just bouncing things off of others is a good way to go. There are so many experiences out there that others will comment on for free, just because you pay someone for advice does not mean it's the best advice.
