Seriously you probably won't notice a difference (provided you buy something with similar specs/price range of course). SATA allows for a broader bandwidth than PATA (IDE), but in practical terms, these drives doesn't even use all the bandwidth that PATA offers. The main advantage from using a SATA drive, is the thin serial cable, instead of those huge flat cables we use for IDE drives...

RPM. That tells you speed no matter what drive you use. If you want faster, get a drive with faster RPM like 10rpm or 15rmp. They are, however, a good bit more expensive
