  • I think this is where co-operative organisations can be useful. I'll use the example of a food co-op. You get a group of people who maybe cannot afford food, or proper nutrition, and get them together. A location and support from local community is needed, but once established a non-profit organisation like a co-op can continue running for a long time. Some of the low-income people can take turns working in the store (gives them something valuable to do that feels good and is useful), and the food to be sold to the low-income customers would be low priced (helping the low-income earners to obtain healthier food). This model gives people skills, and helps out their current needs as well.
