Since it is the latest thing, unless it is just designed for saving time and human resources i would like to think the Tympanic thermometre is the more accurate

Generally speaking, many go for intra-nasal (a long thin one that goes down a nostril and into the throat) or a rectal temperature for accuracy. But since these can be rather uncomfortable for the patient, for daily ward obs the nurses use oral thermometers. In theatres, unless using a nasal one for big cases, we use a tympanic or new forehead ones for ease of use.
