Help answer this question below.
Yes too many times the last two weeks ago. My husband was taken in under Blue lights and never got to come home again
Not an ambulance, once in a police car.
Yes..August 13, 2004. Jim and I were in a terrible accident..the car fishtailed, spun around several times then began to rollover a couple of times and smashed against a mountain, bottom of the car hitting the mountain...it was a miracle we survived..people on cells phones stopped to help..it was pouring rain..an ambulance was called and we were put on hard wooden boards, collars around our necks, placed on gurneys and taken to Mammoth Hospital..I asked that the gurneys be placed close enough so we could hold hands, which they kindly did! :)
Yes, when I broke my collar bone.
Yes! I am a paramedic.
yes I had a stroke
I had an extremely severe case of food poisoning I got from eating some tainted cole slaw at a local KFC resturaunt a few years back. It was so extreme I couldn't even stand up straight. My ex wife (who was still my wife at the time) had to call an ambulance to have me taken to the emergency room.
I have delivered 2 babies in ambulances. Well, not delivered in the sense I drove them somewhere and dropped them off like the stork. I actually helped Mom deliver the babies. Well... She did most of the work, I was kinda there to ummm.. Well, I was there. And I have 2 stork pins to wear. All in all it's pretty rare to have a baby delivered in an ambulance.
I estimate that I have ridden in an ambulance approximately 450 times. I worked as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the town I grew up in from 1983 until 1988. During that time, I was assigned to the ambulance company approximately one-half of the time I was on duty. Since we worked an average of 180 days (or nights) per year, I assume that I was on ambulance duty around 90 days per year for five years. The ambulance usually ran about once per shift, which is where I came up with my total trips. Some things I learned as an EMT:
1. The number 1 determinant as to whether you will survive a massive heart attack is how far you live from a trauma center/emergency room.
2. An auto accident at 20 miles per hour can be fatal if you aren't wearing your seat belt.
3. Drinking and driving any type of vehicle (including a boat) is a sure way to get a trip in an ambulance.
4. People rarely get burned to death in a fire. They asphyxiate long before the flames ever reach them.
5. Taking your friends or neighbors to the hospital on their final ride is very traumatic.
6. You can count on a patient who has been drinking to throw up on you at some point during the ride.
8. Little kids find the ride in an ambulance to be equally as traumatic as the accident that caused them to have to go for a ride in the first place.
9. No matter how far apart the contractions are, if you are called to bring an expectant mother to the hospital in a snowstorm, you will be delivering a baby.
10. No matter how difficult an emergency incident may seem at the time, you can count on it being over after that 20 minute ride.
Yes, knocked unconscious playing rugby union. Don't remember much of the trip for obvious reasons.
yes, in may i was rushed to the hospital from a suicide attempt. i had hung myself in my bathroom. i was unconcious so i dont really remember. i just remember that my nose was burning from the oxygen mask. and the second time was this last september. i had another mild suicide attempt. i overdosed and got sick and they took me in for the night.
before those, i was in one once when i was about 8-9. i jumped off a large rock and split my knee open. but i dont remember the ride.
Yes , My Grandpa Hade A savere Heart Attack And I Rode With Him in the Ambulance! By The Way My Granpa Died On The Way Thier. :(
Just one time when I had a ectopic pregnancy and was bleeding enternally. I had to be rushed via ambulance to a bigger city. I didn't feel that our little town had a good enough surgeon to fix my tubes that had burst from the baby growing inside the tube.
As of yet, KNOCK on wood, I have not. My father was, he was having a heart attack, they took him by ambulance then by helicopter. You would think in AZ, a retirement community they would have hospital that nearby that could handle such a situation without the need to air lift a patient.
Yes once in the stupidity of my youth
yes but only once... I have yet to figure out how they could justify taking me the last two times, I feel robbed!
about 2 times. once because I was having breathing problems and the second because I had a ceiling fan fall on my head. make that 3 times, I had a wreck too
No, never. I've only been in the hospital once... got my ass slapped.
twice - once when I had apendicites, and once when I was having chest pain and shortness of breath. The first time led to me having surgery - the second one (gratefully) was stress related and not a heart condition.
Yes:(. Once when I was 17.
On more than one occasion...
Yeah, I used to have feveral seizures I've been rushed to the hospital four times when it has shot up to 106 degrees & then I would have the seizures. But they stopped about 12 years ago when I was fourteen.
Too many times to count!
I'm epileptic and have the occasional grand mal seizure.
And one really really bad car accident:(
Yep. After a knife fight. I lost.
Yes and way too many reasons..lol
Yes, I had an accident and got rushed to the hospital but I wasn't hurt as bad as they thought, luckily.
Yes but the one that was sick was my mom.
Three times for different reasons
Never as a patient, only as a visitor.
No, the only time I needed to be rushed to the hospital, I was taken via police car which happened to be at my nieghbors house.
Quite a few times: Air ambulance (medivac) 4 times, regular ambulance 4 times for injuries.
Yes i used to work/live in the back of the ambulance
Yes, when I was 19. It's rather embarrasing, but what happened is that I was having a hallucination that my landlord was trying to poisen me, and then they showed up and drove me to the psych ward in the ambulance.
Yes, thrice.
Yes, as both a patient and a passenger.
As a patient, it was because I broke a Christmas ornament as a child, and pieces got into my eye. (I don't actually remember this, but it pains me enough to think about it...)
As a passenger, a friend of mine broke a bone (can't recall which), and I tagged along in the ambulance.
Yes, and then I was in hospital for 3 weeks.
yep. after a wreck. the emt was very nice and unstrapped my legs because having them flat was hurting my back. he also asked the driver to go around speed bumps on my behalf.
Have been in an ambulance lots due to patients having falls etc.
No, but the good thing about ambulances is that you get first access to the ER.
Yes I was at a waterpark my daughter had a seizure and park called ambulance and it was a 20 mile ride I rode up front while they put tubes in and administered medicine to my daughter.
yes a few times :)
Yes. When I broke my leg I had a 20 mile ambulance ride to the hospital. This ambulance was basically a 1 1/2 ton truck and was anything but comfortable. An extra shot of morphine was required just to make this ride bearable.
When i went into labour they even put the siren on for me lol.
Yes, twice in the back for a couple of carr accidents I was in, and just last weekend my husband got hit in the head with a bat, and I got to ride in the front on the way to the hospital. Lots of buttons up there!
Yes, I was really little when my family was in a car accident and I don't remember that.
I've ridden in the front of an ambulance when they've taken my dad to the hospital for complications with his diabetes.
Yes - I took some Aleve asprin and I learned real quick that I am highly allergic to them,I almost died
I used to be a truck driver and was hit head-on by another trucker that went to sleep at about 65mph. I was care-flighted if that counts.
no
Yes. Me, my younger cousin and my uncle were in a car accident and had to go to the hospital. Lucky there were no serious injuries.
Yes, 15 yrs back. My daughter fell from a slide in the park. What a journey to hospital.
