Help answer this question below.
I dont see how a man/woman with a weapon can call shooting little fluffy animals a sport.
Sport is or should be competition between two willing and equally matched paticipants.
If the so called 'hunters' want sport then they should go into a forest each with a gun and shoot at each other. Thats a sport which I'd support.
Surely it could only be called a sport if both sides were equally equipped; Therefore, it isn't a sport until the animals have guns too.
There are, theoretically, two ways to make it a sport, if you define a sporting event as contention between fairly matched rivals.
1. Arm the deer so they can shoot back.
2. Replace hunter orange with deer suits that the hunters must wear, and let them hunt each other.
If neither of those is acceptable then hunting actually becomes a pastime or a hobby of sorts, or in some cases a means of obtaining food.
Anyone who thinks that killing is a sport needs to be medicated. It would truly be a sport if the animals could shoot back.
i think hunting is a sprot not for the whole sitting in a deer stand for like 4 hours but for the afer you shoot something, chasing it, the suspense building up, i like it and consider ti a sport, i apoligize for disagreeing with others
Some people could consider it a sport. Most people think that its not a sport unless it envoulves a Ball. Example: VolleyBALL, BasketBALL, BaseBALL, but I believe Diving to be a sport, and Hunting! So in conclusion, yes.
=]
To some its a sport..to others its murder!!
It is many things...
It is a necessary part of wildlife management today because urban sprawl has upset the natural balance,
While most hunters could buy more meat with the money they spend hunting than they actually bag, it can be a source of meat,
It is a pass time hunters enjoy, but not everyone will. That's their choice, just as some enjoy needle point but I wouldn't.
Whether or not you call it a sport is a matter of semantics.
It requires skill and, depending on where and how you hunt, physical conditioning if you hope to be successful.
Yes. So is racism.
Only if you arm your prey.
Hunting Is a sport, fishing Is a sport...
If on sport center they put the world series of poker, than hunting and fishing Is definitely a sport =)
If you go hunting grizzly bears armed with nothing but a knife, it's a sport. If you blast the brains out of small fluffy mammals from a distance with a high powered scoped rifle it's not.
Its not as easy as people that dont hunt assume it is. Thats why most people pay farmers to kill animals.
Only when you're hunting a human. They know how to get away.
Hunting animals... Is an outdoor activity. No sport in it really.
Sitting in a tree house make of tree camoflage with deer scent on your deer colored pants? Really sporting of you dude!
Something is only a "sport." when both parties involved have to chance to partake, play and win. How does getting shot in the head imply sport?
Hunting is hunting... The other party involved... Is literally like a deer in the headlights.
I can't convince any of the hunters I know that it's not a sport.
I think that hunting could be a little more fair and manly and than it would be more sportsmanlike. A real hunt to me involves total submersion in the wild. Just the clothes on your back and maybe a knife. You find the animal, and you wrestle it to death and eat/use every part of it.
More fair that way, and that's coming from someone who owns guns.
i would say that hunting is a sport..lets take forexample africa, there when u hunt you run miles, and miles without water and its a very good training..you are on the otherside hunting for food but also training..i say if you are not happy with the way your body is,and if you feel that you are big then take a trip to africa..there, in one ore two months you will be slim like hell..so yes hunting is a sport..
peace=)
Depends on which side of the gun you're on, doesn't it?
Yeah, I think it is,...It requires skill, and can be extremely competitive.
Where is the sport???
If it were humans they were shooting would it be called sport? NO!
Its a power trip of some inadequate humans over a defenceless species.
If the animals were able to shoot back, then that would be more sporting
Its killing/murder!!!
It depends which country you are in / In England people ar not allowed to hunt
i think its more of a hobbie.
Not to the Hunted.
yes and no it is a fun sport a faimliy can take in but it is also a way to control animal popultaion if there is toomany deases start spreading more cars hit deer and hunting is a fun way to fill a frezzer full of great food
Well I guess I can change a airhead can I. Peace
Competitive shooting may be called a sport.
Hunting is more of a passtime.
Apparantly it is, hardly fair in my opinion though.
i think hunting is a sport...i hunt, and it takes skills, practice, and dedication.
It's a sport if you go out on horseback or on foot to a place where the animals don't expect you armed with a bow and arrow or a crossbow and a good knife and perhaps a good hunting dog.
If you go out with a high caliber rifle and enough other gadgetry to attack a small country, riding some sort of ATV to a place where you have been feeding the deer corn all year to fatten them up and make them trust you...I can't even think of a word that is derogatory enough to describe it. Likewise with chasing game to exhaustion with an airplane or helicopter, then landing and shooting them point blank. Ditto, walking up to baby seals and clubbing them to death.
Sport is a contest between equals - a matching of wits. If you need the meat, and you truly hunt, using your wits and knowledge of the wild and showing a bit of respect, and you kill only what you can use, and you use everything that you kill. I have no problem with it.
Killing for pleasure while armed to the teeth is not a sport. It is just organized bullying.
it is in some countries but it shouldnt be....how could you be so cruel.
well look at it like this.... over 100,000,000 animals die to "sport" hunting theres a type of sheep that was hunted.
Most hunting today is done for "recreational" purposes -- for the pure pleasure of pursuing and killing an animal. Hunters generally target trophy animals like those with the largest antlers, the biggest horns, etc. Often the prized parts are removed, while the rest of the body is left to rot in the field. now don't forget because of "sport" hunting hundreds of species went extinct and some still are. so now think about it can you be honest and say is pointing a gun at some thing and pulling the trigger a sport, if so if you and your buddies got guns and shot the first innocent thing you see in the street and tell me if thats considered a sport to you and every one thats around and tell the judge at your trial its a sport, then tell me how did it go? do you still think its a sport?
Deer have beeter sences than people so that gives them the edge and so if it the people dont dress up then they will be seen and of you do not kill the animals then they will get over populated then they will all die of starvation and they will die a slow painful death. Also people do hunt for compition. And animal dont need weapons they use there sences like deer the have the best smell sight hearing and ducks the have the best sightso they all are equiped with something maybe just not weapons
Unless for self defense any killing is a Crime, noy a sport.
No, it is an outdoor activity, as there is very little sporting behaviour involved.
No sport of mine. If your hungry eat a tree!
Hunters would deff say yes!
Not really. How could it be?Animals don`t have weapons, don`t go into where people live looking to kill them. But hunters say it is.There are alot around here.Alot in my family...If you follow the rules, eat what you take,it is not too bad.We eat meat that didn`t get such a good life as wildlife does. But some people around here go bezerck at deer season!Have to be careful and hope not to get shot by accident...It`s good to know you could survive. But it is Not really a sport. Not at all. They just call it that.
I think hunting is a sport, but a dangerous one. There have been reports of fatal accidents which occurred during hunting.
no its an outdoor activity. a sport implys competition. hunting an animal that has no idea its being hunted isnt sport. now get two humans in a forest hunting each other, thats a sport.
I would call it an outdoor activity. You just have to be patient and have good aiming skills.
all you animal rights people and peta members dont know what you are saying hunting brings down the population and is good for the ecosystem get a life and stop whining about killing "fluffy animals" yes it is a sport and is a good one better than volleyball or basketball that all that is doing is oh ya nothing
I commented in the wrong box dont look in this box SORRY
Only when the "target" is free in their own world.
You can't "hunt" rabbits in a hutch, and you can't "fish" in a populated pond...
Hunting is a sport, man's been chalenging himself to it since the dawn of time, always hunting, always fishing, always making up other sports, you tell me hunting isnt a sport and yet you think it should be there because what would happen when the whole world doesnt hunt for a year..? exactly now, dont tell me its not a sport, its the oldest sport there is.
No, it's an outdoor recreation, not a sport, unless it's being done in competition. A sport is some activity with a governing body or association with a firm set of rules to judge the competition. Shooting, target shooting, silhouette hunting are sports as they are regulated and have rules for competition.
But most people just call anything that they do outdoors a sport when it really is just a recreational activity.
Yes it is a sport. Gaming is when you hunt animals but people also go againist each other sometimes, but it is a sport
Sure. It's fun.
Can a convicted felon own a crossbow for hunting?

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.
by Sid on June 27th, 2009
I think that is flat out stupid. PPL do go againist each other. Like in fish, they see who can get the biggest fish or who can catch the most. SPORT: An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively
Have you every chased a rabbit or squirill after wounding it
by Perdita on July 1st, 2009
All animals hunt, it's not our fault we invented the gun first
by Perdita on July 1st, 2009
Anyway the question was is hunting a sport, not if it right or wrong
by Perdita on July 1st, 2009
You know hunters are more part of nature then any human AND ALSO I'm doing it for my Lab for his health and entertiment
by Perdita on July 2nd, 2009
Okay if you eat meat, Why is it good for a farmer to raise an animal so when it goes up it can be shoted in the head, farm animals dont even have a chance to run. SO next time youi eat beef, pork or chicken think of why it was raised in thes first place while you over there thinking hunting is bad
by Perdita on July 5th, 2009
Well that farmer likes make money off killing animals and shoting them in the head, I bet if the farmer didnt like it he wouldnt farm, so I bet he think ,killing that cow out in the field so some person can eat him, is fun
by Perdita on July 5th, 2009
There's a difference between food and so called 'entertainment' dearest.
by Gonzo on July 5th, 2009
Hunters eat the food they get and they enjoy it. They work for their food. While ppl like you eat beef, pork, and chicken that was raised to be shot in the head for a cheap thrill from the farmer, then he sells it after
by Perdita on July 5th, 2009
Perdita I have known many farmers and as far as I know not one of them got a "cheap thrill" out of killing the animals, it was just a necessary part of their job. There is a difference between killing an animal out of necessity and killing for pleasure. I eat meat and while I don't hunt if I was in a situation where I had to in order to survive I would do so, but I would derive no pleasure from the act.
by Sid on July 5th, 2009
Yes exactly.
by Gonzo on July 5th, 2009
Well I guess yall cant see the fun of it. But it is a sport and farmers dont have to become farmers they can be something else or go back to school. But Gonzo if your only why to fight for something is to insult ppl then you know you lost the fight but for this Im done cause you cant change ppl and i cant change ppl. But for the hunters I know they eat their meat, so dont think ALL hunters are heartless
by Perdita on July 5th, 2009
Yes you cant change an air head can you? You've obviously been brainwashed from birth into thinking causing another living creature pain and fear s ok.
I have absolutely no time for people like you and I dont want to even try and be polite to you because quite frankly I find your 'entertainment' of murdering innocent little fluffy animals sickening.
by Gonzo on July 5th, 2009
Gonzo, are you a vegetarian?
by spock's brain on November 7th, 2009
No im not, but if you've read what ive written what im saying has nothing to do with eating meat. All animals eat other animals (or most) what I have a problem is is idiots with guns hunting things in the name of sport. That's what's wrong with it.
by Gonzo on November 9th, 2009
so if you were out in the wild dieing and you killed an animal you for food you would get a thrill cuz then you got food im a hunter and i eat my food and iv been traped out in the wild and had to survive on my own kills and i was happy when i killed it cuz i got food to keep me alive and british are a bunch of dumb asses
