  • They are Total Morons and have no understanding of what we Health care life support professionals go thru to get to those in need

  • Perhaps they don't have the mathematical capability to dial any phone number more complex than 911. ;) I used to work on DMS100 call processing equipment for a phone company (SBC). One day I was monitoring Emergency Services (911) trunks (circuits) just to see what kinds of calls they got. The most ignorant but sincere call that I heard was a guy who said that his car had been stolen a week before then (an emergency call is only warranted in that case if your car is being stolen, not if it already has been). I eventually found one trunk where some juvenile idiots were making prank 911 calls from a pay phone. I turned off the phone where the calls were originating from (I made it manually busy thereby denying that line dial tone). I waited about 5 minutes and then restored the line to service. Then I monitored it for awhile to ensure that there was no more idiocy.
