Your not a workaholic. I believe that it is essential to man to work. Without work you lack a feeling of purpose.

Perhaps you are a workaholic. Perhaps you need to discover that working for someone else isn't the be-all and end-all of existence. ;) Don't get me wrong. We do what we gotta do. I have been employed for over 35 years and in all that time have had only 3 jobs. But if I didn't have to work to make a living, there are loads of stuff I would fill my time with. Hobbies, outside interests, etc. But if your job is what makes you happiest, then I say more power to ya! :)

Go clean your room. Organize the cabinets in the kitchen for better space utilization. It's almost new years. Look at the expiration dates on everything in the fridge and medicine chest. Toss out anything that's expired. Search your entire place for anything that needs a good cleaning, and give it just that. When you get done with those assignments, report back for your next set of tasks. Doc Jim will have you feeling just fine in no time. :)

I had my first paid vacation (in years) this past summer. On Monday I painted the living room. On Tuesday I shampooed the carpets... On Wednesday I put a new roof on the porch....

I think that to want to work, to be productive, is a basic desire, or need, of being human. I also think that it is also a basic need to stop and take a breath once in a while. Like you I have time off around the holidays. It's about the only time of the year I can get enough days in a row off to unwind around home. Three or four days off for a special project, or running her and there on a "vacation" doesn't cut it. Sure, I have a few things to do around the house, but by the end, I'll be ready to go back.

I like to be productive too! So during the thanksgiving holiday - I gutted and redid and bathroom and during this christmas holiday I'm ripping up carpet, sanding and painting. Don't get me wrong, there are days when I do nothing but chill on the couch!

Yes you are, and I WAS a workaholic myself. 80 hrs a week will put you in a grave quickly, not to mention that you miss a great deal of life while you are working. You should do what you enjoy, and work may be what you enjoy, but don't be afraid to step out there and enjoy other things. Good Luck "Fellow workaholic", although I am recovered (thank goodness)!! ;)

you need to learn how to drink beer and eat cheetos in front of the t.v. i'd give you lessons but i'm booked solid through april. i could put you on the waiting list and if i get a cancellation i'll let you know. seriously though; if you've got a groove, stay in the saddle, but make some time for the people that love you.

No. You're a respectable American. My hat is off to you and your drive. And my finger is high in the air for all the jobless out there living off of my paycheck when they are perfectly capable of work.

Sartre would have you "falling away" from yourself. Quasi-poetic, eh? ;-)
