  • Basically, the emos are equated with homosexuality by the tougher Mexican youth. I followed one of the links in that story to an "underground" web site, which basically recommends various forms of violence and torture against emos, and particular singles out My Chemical Romance and Smashing Pumpkins as source of disgust. The blog comments (in Spanish) are pretty harsh too. I guess you could say these kids take their music a bit too seriously! Another thing that goes on in Mexico which the article doesn't mention is the close relationship between some musicians and drug traffickers -- the druglords will "sponsor" a musician, commissioning "narcocorridos"... ballads which glorify the druglord. These are quite popular in many parts of Mexico, turning the druglords into underground heroes to many young people. Musicians have been killed by rival druglords over these songs. It's just a different world in many ways! :)
  • Well I'm from Mexico and no one was killed in Queretaro yes there was violence against emos but that was a long time ago now its all forgotten. People respect emos now no one even cares about them anymore. This is the way gossip starts seriously how can they say someone was killed when the riots didnt even escalated enough to be called "riots" In mexico City there was an attempt but a group of Hare Krishna's helped to disperse the crowed singing, sounds weird i know but thats how it happened. This is old news, and yeah no one wins between emos and punks because theres nothing to win or fight over for.
