  • Those are very different beasts. The Spider Jam is great for practice since it has all of those built-in tracks to play along with, and it can also be played very quietly or in headphones if necessary. The Spider III is a good mid-level practice/small gig amp without all of the built-in tunes. The Spider Valve has a tube preamp section and a full tube power amp section designed by Bogner, a powerhouse in the tube amp market. Even the 40w version will peel the paint off of the walls. In my opinion for the best pure tone, the valve version will probably stand out. I also think it has more than enough effects. I'm a long-time tube guy even though I do love playing through Line 6 gear. I also rarely use more than chorus, delay, and reverb, and most of the time play 100% dry. All 3 amps can be plugged straight into a mixer for recording or for piping into a PA so they can be used for large venues if necessary, but the Valve version has a dedicated XLR out. If you need to be able to play in headphones or at very low volumes I'd go for the Spider Jam for all of its cool stuff.
  • I'm partial to my Flextone III. You can get any tone you can imagine. Plus you can go to their website and download the tones of all the greats, Clapton, Hendrix, SRV and put them in your amp. Check out my webpage about the amp www.squidoo.com/guitaramplifier
