  • These features are being added in many countries to protect the privacy of unsuspecting individuals. You might be surprised to know that some countries have a forced flash as mandatory on mobile phones.

  • Mine is like that, too! I see the reasoning, of course, but it's annoying. Is it possible for you to change the sound? That's what I did. Now it's slightly less, albeit still there, annoying.

  • yes it is possible but most of them are encrypted in the phone, just like the nextel chirp you cant change it yet until they find out how to unencrypt it...

  • I think so. The only way I can switch it off now is if I put my phone on silent-mode. When camera phones first came out they had a range of shutter-sounds you could pick.

  • These have been made mandatory in many cases because people were doing things like taking up-skirt shots and locker-room shots. The cellphone is so ubiquitous that you cannot stop people taking them, but they can be very intrusive.
