  • We've been using the bills to whittle our consumption down for ten years. Each year, I've managed to cut our consumption down enough to keep the cost about the same, even as costs have risen dramatically.
  • Our bills have a bar chart on them showing consumption over the past year.
  • We always check them. Same as Blessed. Looking for ways to cut back. That's why during the day my thermostat doesn't go above 60-62, at night it's turned to 58. Also got us to buy those squiggly florescents(sp) that you need to wear a hazmat suit for, to clean them up if they break. It saves a little.
  • sure thing! every consciencious billpayer should
  • Well I figure just throw on another layer. If I had an infant in the house it might be a different story.
  • Wasn't here last year but I watch them month to month and with entergy you never know. They are screwing people badly this year. It dropped 50% in one month and then went back up 40% the next month (they are being sued so I guess we are paying the legal fees). Sad part is how do you fight it? You either pay what they say you owe or it gets shut off. My thermostat stays on 70 at night and about 72 during the day so I keep it monitored carefully. I have to.
  • I always check. It doesn't help since the rates were increased and most of my utilities usage has also increased.
  • yes, but if they go up or down, i don't know why. i try to monitor my water/electric usage, but a spike in bills hardly ever correlates to more utility use.
  • I check gas, water and power every month. Even got once a refund from the gas company ( Duke Power). You also will be able to see if your changes in usage or investments in energy reduction pay of. I got a huge gas fired hot water heater, turning the temp. down by about 15° reduced my gas bil by about 5%.
  • I check them, but I don't get too scientific about it. I'm just looking for really big changes that might signal a malfunction or something broken.
  • Well we have no monthly garbage bill here per say as in the country its not mandatory yet so we just share with mother-in-law & go to dump every few months which cost about $10.00, our water is on a well, we have propane tank and only fill it about every 3yrs it is 150 gals. we heat by pellet stove, cost last yr was about $500.00 and this yr we added a Catalytic heater to our master bedroom which runs on propane also. We switched to CFL light along time ago and all but may be one light in house has been changed. Oue electric bill runs in the summer about $68.00 and $40.00 in winter, propane is put in every couple yrs and we buy pellets every payday at 8 bags for 2 weeks for a cold spell.
  • Yes. I am under the PG&E area of the Monopoly industry so I am pinched, gouged, and excessively over charged with my energy bill. I have checked every month to see how much less we are useing but being frugal in CA only will get you a higher rate to pay for someone elses bills. I have changed out all of my older appliances and electronics, but they raise the rates constantly. I think I will install solar panels next and get rid of PG&E all together.
