Yes. It turned out that someone had spilled milk and only cleaned up where they could see it.

It's all the meat and fish in it. We used to have that smell in our refrigerator too but ever since we switched to 100% vegetarian foods stuffs that smell disappeared.

Of course, number one is keep the fridge clean and throw out anything that's past its prime. nut keeping an open box of baking soda in there helps. And activated charcoal is about 100 times more effective. You can get it in bulk for pet supply stores in the aquarium section, as it is used in aquarium filters.
