Yes, I have had awesome luck with Atkins.

I did Atkins and lost 6 lbs in the first 2 weeks however by the end of the 2 weeks I felt like crap and couldn't even walk up a flight of steps. Also my kidneys ached like crazy. It is definetely not for everyone.

Not so much low carb but food combining (where you dont mix protein and starch at the same meal) works- cuts cravings and helps with boosting immune system, vitality etc., I would personally recommend

My fiance has lost over 80 pounds on Atkins. He highly recommends it. The downside is if he goes off Atkins for a few days, he'll put a couple of pounds back on.

Low Carb diets can work, for a period of time. What you will find, though, is that all 'diets' are the same, you have to restrict a catagory (or catagories) of food, which is hard to stick to over the long term, and unhealthy as you miss out on nutrients. Atikins diet is low in vitamins & minerals found in carb based foods (fruit, vegetable etc), and it is harmful to the arteries over a long term if you eat all the recommended fats in the diet. High protein also casues the body to go into a stage called ketosis (this is when the most weight is lost on this diet), and this means your body is breaking itself down in order to obtain glucose to fuel your brain. A side effect of ketosis is bad breath. Bad breath and smelly flatulence will also increase due to the amount of protein taken in. A general hint would be to abandon the word diet from your mind, and change your lifestyle. Eat all the things you love, but in moderation, and excercise. Do not restict whole food groups, as it is difficult to maintain and means you miss out on vital nutrients. Going on diets is futile as you return to the habits that made you larger in the first place when finished. Good Luck

I had a really good friend who lost about 30 or 40 pounds on the atkins diet.

the akins diet is an awful diet. the concept sounds okay BUT it is totally unbalanced. i have had much more luck in heathy, balanced diets. Vegetarianism is great as well, as lond as you eat tofu and other good for you foods. also, lots of running and exexrisce.

I've had good luck with Atkins. I was able to lose 30 lbs in 2 months. You have to stick to the diet, or close at least, if you want to keep the weight off though. I have gained some back, but go back on the diet for a month to drop it again. Need to do it right now as a matter of fact.

Yes, I lost over 20 pounds in three months. Don't believe everything you read here. Get a copy of the book and read it for yourself. It is only highly restrictive the first phase (which can be as short as 2 weeks). It is only dangerous if you are already in kidney failure (this from a qualified nephrologist). It is NOT nutrient deficient, as you add fruits and vegetables. Most people will eat fewer empty calories (white bread and sugar) and MORE fruits and vegetables in the long run. By the way, it is the same as the South Beach Diet, only South Beach emphasizes healthy fats.

I lost 30lbs in 4 months on Atkins, and I've kept it off for 3 months now. I expect it to be permanent weight loss.

My husband and I have been on our own sort of low carb plan. We drink 1 Slim Fast High Pro for breakfast and then have one meal somewhere around 2-4 in the afternoon, and a piece of fruit for snack. We cook just about any kind of meat - bar-b-que is awesome! We have a good-sized mixed greens salad with cucumbers, radishes, carrots, or cole slaw and some cooked/raw veggies in the low carb class. We also have 1 fruit of choice each day. I have been doing this for 7 weeks and lost 15 lbs. (I need to loose 65 in total) Your choices are many esspecially if cooking comes easy. I tried Atkins but it was too hard and I had to be too careful. I also got very tired easily. I add onions and some other veggies they don't allow. I also have yam fries every once in awhile. Sometimes a small potato. I figure they are "whole foods" and if I crave carbs at least make it count. I just don't ever eat bread/pasta/cereal or anything like that. Also if I am really hungry I'll eat non-fat cottage cheese, even just a slice of cheddar. Adkins allows lots of fats last I tried it but we limit the fats - esspecially animal fats. I personally don't think it's a good idea to eat a lot of hard fats - I stick to olive or canola. Good luck Susie

I had terrific luck with low-carbing (6/08 to present) and it was the only thing that has worked, and is now a lifestyle. went from sz. 16 to sz 8 in 8 months and feel so much healthier, too, and am not depressed about my appearance anymore. At age 53, that is important because aging in and of itself can be a factor in how you feel about yourself. Here and there I have a piece of rye bread, or a taste of rice, but I keep those to a minimum. One additional thing, tho' - it needs to be combined with a "low Glycemic Index (GI)" approach - keep sugar to a minimum because it is just as damaging (same effect) as refined carbs!!!
