Yes. I stepped in to stop my exes' son from hitting her (he was almost 18). I stopped the attack on her. However, I turned my head at the wrong time and he took advantage of it. That was my error, I admit. I was too trusting at the wrong time. She stood by HIM over me. So, I paid a huge price for my kindness.
