The following verses sum up quite well, the question you asked. James 1:13-15 " Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death."

I think the story of Job represents a story in which God was tempted by Satan in which Satan bet God that he could get Job to forsake God. God took the bet, allowing Satan to torture Job physically, mentally, and emotionally, and in ways which would scar a man for life. You never get over the loss of the ones you love (Job's first family members.) Why did God do this? Only God knows, but I know I wouldn't wish Job's fate on anybody!
