  • in today's society, I would hope you're learning to fight with hand to hand weapons for some sort of nonlethal competition. if you're actually considering using deadly weapons in street fights... stay away from anything that can't seriously maim the other guy. unless you're Bruce Lee, nunchucks aren't gonna cut it against a sword, cause if you mess up, his weapon can kill you. if he messes up, there's a chance you could knock him out, but you better do so. if you need to learn combat, stick with knives or just get a gun for protection
  • Although they are great for safe training and for safe competition, they are both illegal to carry/use and very limited in their defensive effectiveness against real knives/swords ... the skill level required to safely and effectively beat multiple opponents under these conditions is extremely difficult to achieve. While it is well worth learning as a motion pattern skill set, just for the strategies, ideas, and concepts ... and while it is a great way to develop specific types of coordination and reflex ... it is better to train only slightly, with weapons that have legal restrictions, because you are not allowed to openly carry these weapons in your hands anywhere/anytime ... and to train more extensively with weapons that have no such restrictions ... there are combat quality wooden canes (and heavy duty stainless steel ones too) that are perfectly legal for you to walk down the street with one in your hand ... and there are many clothing makers that use "cut & puncture resistant" materials to reduce injuries from cutting edge weapons, these are legal to wear.
  • How often do you plan to get into fights with other melee weapon carying opponents?
  • ...yeah. I use nunchaku. Infact is my weapon of choice. If you learn how to use it right the possibilities are unlimited.
