  • Well... I think the best thing you can do is to try and face your fear in a controlled environment. If you want your family to stop, you need to explain to them that it’s a serious thing… the problem is that this phobia (like most) is quite entertaining. Can you see the funny side of it at all? I found that people talked about needles and injections to me lots when they found out I had a phobia of injections.
  • What is it about the big eyes that makes you feel this way? When i think of things with big eyes the first thing that came to my mind was tiny toons - baby versions of bugs bunny etc. and their exaggerated cuteness (big shiny eyes) Creatures with big eyes - they need them! esp. nocturnal creatures - how else would they see at night in pitch black?
  • Ignore those that laugh, we all have a phobia or something. You can conquer your fears with hypnosis, if you're willing to take it that far. If not, just try minimise your reactions to the little creatures with big eyes, avoid them as much as you can and remember they can't hurt you and are probably much more scared of you then you are them! :)
  • Facing your fears all by yourself can be overwhelming - and cause you to faint from fear. What your therapist ought to have added is that there are very effective therapies which - when you do them WITH a trained therapist - can be very effective, safe, and help you conquor those fears. Anyone who makes fun of you is ignorant and mean. Look for a therapist who is trained and experienced working with Anxiety Disorders....phobias come under that category. You DO NOT have to suffer with this...it is treatable!!
