Does anyone think it's strange that Tom Cruise speaks with an American accent while playing a German Colonel in his new movie Valkyrie?

Tom's abilities are limited. A German accent from him would have been absurd. His playing the role is laughable enough.

I agree. Cruise was miscast as a German colonel with a flat American accent. The producers/directors should at least have portrayed the characters with gutteral German accents to give a semblance of credibility.

Well, the movie should have been in German, with English subtitles. Other than that, what German, when speaking with Germans and in Germany would speak English with a heavy German accent? I think what the director was trying to imply was that everyone was speaking German...so it was not distracting trying to understand the actors speaking with the accent.

i havent seen the movie yet, but thats unfortunate. personally i like it better when the movie is in a different language w subtitles. it just makes it authentic. i dont mind the reading

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it is being mailed to me by Netflix. As far as Tom Cruise and the word strange, they go together very well. He is a good actor, but personally I really do not like what I hear about him as far as the type of husband he is and his beliefs. He's probably an egotistical control freak. It must be very difficult to be his wife, poor Katie.
