  • Generally more power = less fuel mileage Start with a full maintainence job. Replace the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, fuel filter, and give it a carb rebuild. It should feel peppier and get better fuel mileage. If that's not enough then there are some aftermarket options. I'm not sure how many parts that are out there for the Land Rover Series 1 so some of these mods may be hard to do. For most of these mods it'd be safe practice to do an engine rebuild. Generally more air flow will yield more power. You can go with a larger carburator to allow more air flow into the engine. Add a better flowing exhaust manifold and exhaust system as well. You can install a turbocharger or supercharger, these require lots of custom fabrication but will put out large amounts of power. You can swap to a more aggressive cam shaft(s) or you can build your engine to make more compression (longer connecting rods, domed pistons, etc).
  • Down & Dirty, Cheap & Easy, Synthesize it!!! Put Synthetic Lubes EVERYWHERE!!! Wheel Brgs., Drive Shafts, Transfer Case, Motor, Differentials. Not only will U get more Power, but much more "Life" out of it as well. It just Stops Wear, Friction & Heat Cleaning & Polishing the Parts it Lubes. Change the Oil "Completely" only every 50,000 miles. Drop the "Filter every 5,000 miles & add oil to "Full" on "Dipstick". John
