Because He wanted there to be a spiritual and physical connection between man and woman. Because we are of the same flesh, we desire to be together as one flesh. He was trying to make Adam the PERFECT companion, and of course, succeeded.

In short, because Lilith turned out to be a bitch. The longer (and terribly paraphrased) version: In the beginning God made Adam and Lilith of the earth. Lilith refused to submit, she got cast out, and eventually turned to strangling jewish babies to death in their sleep. Not a good track record. So then he made woman number two out of one of Adam's ribs. And Adam watched, and then Adam said, "Oh... God... gross!" And God sighed, and destroyed the woman he had just built Adam. God, being the clever little fox that he is decided that this time He'll just make Adam go to sleep, and THEN build a woman. And he did so, building woman number three from Adam's rib (so she would, you know, not turn out like the baby killing harpy), and he named it Eve. So, first there was Lilith made of dust, but she was a bitch, so then God made woman #2, but Adam was a bitch, so then he made Eve out of a rib after knocking Adam out cold, and viola, Eve was happy, Adam was happy, and God doesn't have a head ache. The first two women are in the Kabbalah, but that is why Eve was made of a rib, because Lilith was Adam's equal, and she was a bitch about it. Since Eve was made from Adam she was less than Adam, and would thusly submit (Orthodox Jews still have this mindset that men are better than women).

This question God alone can answer. He had so many choices of meterial available. But he picked on Adam's ribs. Must have had a reason. We ordinary mortals can't really see the divine reasons. So better not waste our energies in finding the answers ourselves. Either believe it or leave it alone.

Cause that was a BBQ rib job that went array

Well, if you are one of those who thinks that God operates within the rules of science, although beyond our understanding, it may have had something to do with the dna strand. But of course, it's all just guesswork

To underline the fact that women are inferior creations. And then he uses much of the rest of the Bible to reiterate that point.

Woman was created from the rib of man. She was not created from his head to be above him Nor was she created from his foot to be trampled by him She was taken from his side to be his equal, From beneath his arm to be protected by him, From near his heart to be loved by him. Author unknown

Do you really think there is anyone on this site that can truly answer this question?????? Sorry, I should have just skipped over this and moved on but I get so sick of questions that don't ask for an opinion (that . . . people could give) but ask instead for the ANSWER!!!! Geez!!

Because women are part of man.

it was probably easier to bring life out of life instead out of dirt.

Because when "god" made Adams first wife Lilth she was his equal. She refused to mate with him after he had rutteg with the animals, and "god" said she had to. So she agreed but told Adam she wanted to be on top, so Adam whined to "god" and had her thrown out of the garden. With Eve "god" pulled a rib so that she was of him, and subserviant to his desires. A little different than the current SPIN on the "facts."

My husband likes to say that God made Man from Dirt,... but for the Woman he used 'Prime Rib'. No doubt He could have made Eve from the dust, just as He did Adam. Why didn't He? The Bible doesn't provide any explicit explanation. However, I think perhaps it nicely illustrates how the sexes complete or complement one another. (1 Corinthians 11:12) For just as the woman is out of the man, so also the man is through the woman; but all things are out of God.

Genesis 2:"This is it!" Adam exclaimed,"She is part of my own bone and flesh! Her name is 'woman' because she was taken out of a man." I reason this is exactly as God intended Adam to reason and us too as pertaining to ur question...hope it helps....

I think he lost the file with the dna blueprint for humans so he had to harvest a sample and make a copy. Gee I hope YVHV had good anaesthetic for Adam and administered good pain management in the patient aftercare

Just to mess with Adam's head... If anyone could make a woman pop out of my rib, I'd bow down to them.

Perhaps it was to provide a spiritual and physical connection, a 'family' connection. Afterall "blood's thicker than water". Even in families that don't get along, when tragedy strikes it envokes a feeling of 'caring' and responsibility.

Eve, the first woman, was formed from a rib taken from Adam. This was appropriate in view of the fact that bones are the body’s foundation, are wholly made up of living cells, and are blood-cell producers. Adam could truly say of Eve: “This is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.” She was the closest possible relative of Adam. (Ge 2:22, 23)

The original Hebrew word for rib was actually the word for 'curve'. It has been suggested that the curve of DNA was the 'rib' that God used to create her. To me this suggests that there is an actual genetic difference between the early men that scientists dig up everywhere and the line of Adam. Adam and Eve may have been tweaked in some fashion a bit more than 6000 years ago. Perhaps the 'white light' trigger was added. But God changed them both, so they would be different from the anthropologically similar beings around them. He gave them an immortal soul. And with that soul, we began acting in a very non-animalistic way. Farming, toolmaking, and more began at around that time.
