I wait for them to take a breath, and politely interject that I wish to be placed on their do not call list. I've had to do political calling, and the rudeness I dealt with from people who had actually given our organisation their number and told us to call... I would not be mean to a telemarketer just for being a telemarketer.
-
I ask then to please hold for a moment. When I come back they are gone.

I am nice. If they have a pleasant voice, I might listen for awhile. when i hear words that highlight me paying for something, I just No, thankyou. I interrupt their dialogue. sometimes I have to say it several times. just to get their attention. they hang up first with their eight hundred number. its about karma. it comes around.

or mess with them
-
I'm on the national and state's do not call lists.
-
Ask them to place me on their no call list.
-
I let them explain why they are calling and then politely say "No thank you" and hang up. In the time it usually takes for them to deliver their entire dialogue, I've usually saved 2 or 3 people from receiving the same type of call from that particular telemarketer. Plus, it's good practice for the telemarketer to explain fully what they are selling/offering.

The first thing is to check if that person is a telemarketer or something else. If it is not clear after about a half minute, I interrupt them and ask them a few direct questions to find it out. After this, either they have admitted it or they try to escape the questions. In both cases, I tell them clearly that I am absolutely not interested in telemarketing. If it is a company that I know personally, or where I am particularly interested, for instance my internet or telephone company, I tell them to please send me their offer per email or per post. Of course, this suppose that they let me speak! But if they try not to let me speak, I can become extremely annoying and even somewhat verbally aggressive.

I hang up.
-
Hold on Ill be right back then i let the phone sit

I used to be a telemarketer. I remember a little girl answering the phone once so I asked her if a parent was home. No word of i lie, she said "My mum is in the bath with my dad" I had no idea what to say to that! I just said ok thanks, and hung up. so to get rid of them, if you have caller i.d and the number looks like it might be a from a company trying to sell you things - just get the kids to answer it and say something cute! :)

Every time almost word for word. "Oh, Thank you very much for calling but we are not interested at this time. If you could, would you please put us on your no call list. Thanks again and have a nice day, bye!" -click-
