Criticism is rarely offered. It is given when we least expect it unless we ask for it and usually delivered none too kindly. It is not done for our benefit, or if that is it's intention, the ones giving it need to go back and learn how to help people and motivate them in a kinder way.
Offering help is something else, done by people who really care, who care so much they choose their words carefully to avoid hurting us
At its best it is well-meaning, designed to be helpful. However, "advising" others only works when it has been requested and not when it is thrust at someone, no matter how honorable the motive. At its worst it is nitpicking and negative due to dishonorable motives such as jealousy, dislike or pettiness. :)
Essentially, criticism is just the pointing out of other possibilities...you can take what's needed.
