  • I switched over from dial up to Broad Band some 2 years back. Actually BB became available in my village only then. I just called the phone company and asked them. They sent me the forms which I filled up and sent back. The connection was activated. Their technician helped me configure the modem. The charges were added to the next month's phone bill. It was as simple as that. Just decide on the schemes they have regarding BB download speed and your monthly budget for BB. Rest is easy. Your telephone company should be doing the work same as mine does it.
  • It will not normally require a visit from the phone company. It will require a DSL modem, a small box that plugs into the telephone socket, and a little widget called a microfilter for every telephone in the house. Usually your ISP will give you the modem and one microfilter when you sign up for a year's service. You can also buy, or sometimes be given by the ISP, modems with a wireless router so that if you have a laptop with WiFi built in (as most modern ones do) or a WiFi card, you can access the Internet all round the house.
