Greene king use it. IPA means Indian Pale Ale.

India Pale Ale. But I just can't imagine what India has to do with beer.

As others have said, it stands for India Pale Ale, but to add to those answers - it got it's name because it was originally shipped by the East India Company to India. Conditions in the holds of the ships were ideal for the beer to mature. Only later did it go on sale in the domestic market.

As already said, India Pale Ale. It was ale intended to be shipped to India in the days of the British Empire. If you are going to be bothered to ship beer that far, it is going to be expensive when it arrives, so you don't waste your time sending low-quality beer. So IPAs were the best premium quality beers, and usually quite strong (6-7%). Of course, people at home then wanted to buy them, and the name IPA became associated with the very best ale. Since then, and since the demise of the export market, the name has been devalued, but still should mean a pretty good ale.

Beyond the information about India Pale Ale in some of the other answers, the IPA on the can means you'll pay more for that can. And in general you're better off with a bottle, not a can; most IPA's are bottled craft/micro-brewed luxury beers.
