  • In the military you could tell you were doing a good job when your superiors were always yelling at you.
  • Always doing the right thing. Not just because someone's watching, but because it's the right thing.
  • doing your absolute best is doing a good job, that way you know you gave it your all
  • The criteria for one job is going to be different from the criteria for another job. You don't dig an outhouse pit the same way you do a tax return. In general, I would consider doing a good job to be taking into account the purpose of the finished product, the resources at hand and your own abilities, and doing the highest quality work you can. This does not mean aiming at perfection, as perfection is the enemy of completion. This means aiming at a good, workmanlike product. It means double-checking your work, making sure it is done right. It means doing research so you have the information necessary to do the best job possible. It means not quitting before the job is done. It means taking pride and pleasure in your work and your work product. And as Maurice Telleen used to say in the Draft Horse Journal, you don't build an outhouse like a courthouse and you don't build a courthouse like an outhouse. The fit and finish you put on something that is going to represent your community and hopefully stand for centuries will be different that you put on a shack hidden behind the house for doing your business.
  • When you sit back and your proud of your results.
  • Completing the task at hand correctly, in a reasonable time frame (not in a shoddy or halfassed manner).
