there should be staff at the gym who can help you meet your goals, and you could even hire a personal trainer for a few sessions to get you on the right track. other than that i would recommend that you get at least 1/2 of cardio a day, or maybe 1 hour every other day. you also should work all of your major muscle groups, but the staff again should be able to point you in the right direction. i never eat directly before a workout, since my workouts are pretty intense. at most i eat 1 hour beforehand, and usually something with carbs in it for energy, or fruit or a salad. i also usually eat maybe an hour or so after a workout, and i eat something with protein to help rebuild muscle. if i am very tired after a workout i eat a handful of peanuts (for protein and energy) so i don't get sleepy while driving.
