I am diabetic so I have to follow a fairly low sugar regime for the most part. The main thing to remember is that anything high in carbs will be broken down into a lot of sugar within your body. Fruit is the tricky one for me. Most fruits contain a fair amount of fruit sugars and I love fruit. Just try keeping the carbs low but not non-existant.

Just eating a normal range of foods but not having sugary drinks or adding sugar to things. If you eat desserts you will probably end up having sugar (It would be difficult without). (If you cant resist sugar use a sweetner instead but go easy on it because artificial sweetners are chemicals and can be bad for you and even affect your mood if you take them in big quantities) Of course if your trying to lose wieght you should take lots of exercise and reduce your intake of carbohyrates and starchy foods like potato, bread, cake and buscuit; and reduce your protein a little too, and cut down on fatty foods and go for lean meat rather than fatty meat. You can still eat the same ammounts of food but just replace what you have cut down on my eating more vegetables and fruit. Even in dieting though its important to still eat a balanced diet with a range of foods. Drinking lots of water can help you lose weight too.
