  • I think we'd lose all gravity and start floating away! Also, do you think the momentum of the seas would wash all over the land? Maybe. I often think what would happen if we lost gravity, by some act of god, and the earth kept spinning. Would that mean everything that's firm, like hills and mountains and some buildings would come crashing into us at thousands of miles an hour.
  • Statue!
  • I would go flying off into space at about 1,000 miles per hour.
  • We'd be S.O.L.
  • Life as we know it would end. There would be no nights out as there would be no nights. "The boys" would be devastated. "Rise and Shine!" would fall out of use as it would e meaningless. Sleep cycles would be disrupted. Newton would be evicted from his grave for being completely wrong.
  • There would be massive earthquakes, volcanic eruptions all over the world, the oceans would swallow cities, fires will brun everything in its path. Life as we know it woould come to a violent end.
  • If the Earth were to stop rotating completely, then the length of the day would be governed by the period of its orbit. So, there would be 182.5 of our days of between sunrise and sunset. (Obviously there would be the same amount of time between sunset and sunrise as well.) So, the days would get incredibly hot while the nights would get incredibly cold. These extreme temperature differences between night and day would probably also create extremely strong winds. In other words, Earth would become quite inhospitable.
  • I think there was a movie made that could answer that question...Darn..I can't remember the name of it! :)
  • We would either be stuck on day light or darkness 24-7. I really hope it would be daylight or we would all become depressed and start killing each other off. That's scary.
  • Our planet rotates at about 1000MPH. That way the entire earth (25,000 miles circumference) can rotate one revolution in one day (24 hours). So by instantly stopping, it is equivalent to running into a brick wall at 1000MPH. Everything on the surface of the earth: cars, buildings, people, water... would be thrown eastward at that speed. The result would be total devastation. There would be two places you would be fairly immune to the effects though, at least temporarily: At the North and South poles.
