Absolutely nothing like sitting in a rocking chair.

It depends on the horse. I've only ridden a horse a few times and liked it the times I had a nice, slow horse. I once went to a stable and rode with a group, the horses were running very fast, I couldn't keep my place in the saddle and kept rising out of it, it was very uncomfortable. If you ever go to a stable, make sure you tell them you're not an experienced rider, most of the time the stable will give you a slow horse. If you have the right horse, it's great, it can be very relaxing moving along the trail, I let my horse stop to eat the bushes whenever it wanted to.

I did once when I was 12. Once was quite enough. Went with some other girls..was supposed to be a lot of fun. Well, the horse I got did his rounds at a respectable pace, and then went directly back to his stall..he would not stop..it was embarrassing to me. Being on the horse was very frightening..they are very tall and when upi finally get on and look down it seems as if it is a very long drop if you fall. :) Happy Monday! :)

It's fun. Make sure you ride with someone that can teach you how to sit in the saddle and not on it. It's hard to explain what it is like, there is nothing I can compare it to. Try to relax and have fun.

Try to get a horse that likes you. See if you can make friends with him a bit before riding. One horse, I think, didn't like me , so going down a hill he stopped dead, sending me flying over his head. I almost broke my neck and I think the horse thought it was funny.

It's about 6ft tall with 4 legs and a tail.

huh...scary..being up that high lol its fun though!

bump ouch, bump ouch, bump ouch, thats if you manage to get on it without slipping over the other side, haha

I've ridden for over 45 years at least. It's not like anything else. You're asking a living thing to communicate with you and do things you want to do. You can feel it it's mouth through the reins and it's muscles between your legs and under your seat. It might be bumpy and insecure at first but when you learn to move with the horse and relax, knowing how to use your balance to not interfere with the horses movements, it's awesome. You become like one entity, one purpose. As the saying goes, "There is something about the outside of a horse, that is good for the inside of a person".

*Sorry about the comparison... I know, I know... But it honestly is kinda like sex... In that it's awkward, bumpy and painful until you get the rythum down and learn to relax. Then you and the animal become like one and its smooth sailing form there.

We used to go to my grandfather's farm for the summers. He owned 2 big white work type horses called Dick and Jack.We used to ride them bareback using no reins. If they did not want you to ride them they would gallop as fast as they could to get you to fall off,or go under trees to knock you off.It was a feeling of power to ride a horse bareback as a child.

make sure if use a riding stable that they have good reputation, then like many said explain that you have no experience, so that may pick the right horse for you. If you have right horse theres nothing like it. Our son started at 5 yrs old, horse was so kind & gentle that she would let him get on even if she was laying down and then she would stand up and away they would go. My hubby & I dated on horseback as we were not old enough to drive, those dates were magic, long rides together though the fields very special. Hubby grew up on horseback many times never even putting a saddle on and rode all day up on cattle ranch he grew up on, when he grew tried just gave horse her head and loosen reins and relax and she went home while he lay on her back relaxed.

It all depends on the horse you are riding.

all i remember my butt hurt after..:)

Painful at first but a lot of fun when you get used to it...it depends on the horse but it can be very bouncy or very smooth :D
-
Scary as hell but exhilerating if you like that sort of thing... I don't ride but I go visit my friends horse all the time and she lets me get on her horse...
-
Yes. Bareback. Without the owners permission. Almost got trampled to death when it bucked me off and dragged me two miles away. Aw, those were the days.

its great! you can feel the wind blowing in your hair! horses are very smart and kind animals.[exept for the shetland pony.they can buck you off hard.but shetland ponys are really cute!]

It would of course be a little intimidating the first time. But it also depends on how fast you're going. A horse that's walking will just rock you back and forth. When he gets up to a trot is the bumpiest time of all. But if you get him to a gallop it smooths out a lot, though it might get scarier.

cool

There is nothing like it...you and the horse in your own world. Riding down the trail with all the nature and beauty. It's so relaxing and wonderful. It can be frightening when you ride for the first time. You just have to get use to the reins and controlling the horse, feeling secure and relaxed. That way the horse will trust you. you should try it! =)
