The definition of genius is based on statistics. In statistical analysis, if you have a group of results - all of the scores from IQ tests taken in a year is a good example for this question - you can find the most propable result, the IQ score that the largest number of test takers got. This number is called the norm. It is usually close to the average, but not necessarily equal to the average. 50% of all results will fall into a range denoted as a "standard deviation". If 100 points is the norm for IQ, than one standard deviation is 20 points. The definition of exceptional, in statistics, is "two or more standard deviations above or below the norm." For genius, that equates to an IQ above the norm by 2 standard deviations, or higher than 140, on a traditional IQ scale.

To come up with something that is noteable All geniuses have at one time or another thought to be out of thier mind for working on something they thought was great...then one day it caught on and every one says they are a genius Take the man who invented rocket propulsion in the early 1900's (don't remember his name right off hand, and to lazy to look it up right now) any way everyone said he was and idoit for his idea and that it would never work, well he went ahead and patented his work and then he soon died...then came the space program in the 1960's and N.A.S.A had to go and pay millions to his family for his patent because his idea worked and now they call him a genius A genius is simply this...Someone who takes an idea and makes it work... nothing to do with IQ, smarts, brains, education, blah blah blah, ect....
