Potential energy can be broken down elastic and gravitational potential energy. Elastic potential energy is defined as a work needed to compress or expand a spring or other object able to deform and reform under its own power. Gravitational potential energy is defined as the energy stored in two masses that are attracted to each other. So, this is any object at rest that is being pulled to another object by gravity, or that is deformed. Kinetic energy is the work required to accelerate or decelerate an object to a given speed. This is any object with mass and velocity. Light is electromagnetic radiation or, a flow of electromagnetic energy. This includes microwaves, visible light, and gamma rays. Thermal energy is the energy associated with the microscopical random motion of particles constituting the media, or how fast, much, and random the atoms in an object are moving. Any object has thermal energy. Chemical energy is the energy due to associations of atoms in molecules and is defined as a work done by electric forces during re-arrangement of mutual positions of electric charges, electrons and protons, in the process of aggregation. All molecules have energy keeping the different atoms together. It is this energy that is called potential chemical energy. Nuclear potential energy is used to describe the energy released from nuclear fission and nuclear fusion processes. Electric potential energy of a given configuration of charges is defined as the work which must be done against the Coulomb force to rearrange charges from infinite separation to this configuration, or the work done by the Coulomb force separating the charges from this configuration to infinity.
