  • This question is so belligerent in addressing gay and straight folks both that I wouldn't even know how to imagine forming a response to you -- from either side. I am more than confident that homosexuals have fought long and hard to be afforded the same rights and legal protections of heterosexual couples. The rest of the question doesn't make much sense. Though, I will say, there is plenty of reason to advocate gay rights even when not gay. It's called supporting a cause.
  • Supporting the equal rights of others helps ensure that my own rights are protected. Marginalization of any one group by denying them freedoms other groups enjoy makes it easier to justify doing the same thing for another group. Besides the fact that I believe fully that homosexuals have an inalienable right to equality, I know that protecting freedoms of one minority group helps all minority groups. If I don't keep lawmakers from impinging upon gay rights, then it will be easier to infringe upon the rights of women, of racial and religious minorities, of anyone not defined as the majority. My rights, the ones that directly affect me. So it's not just because I love my gay brethren that I fight for their rights. It's also because by doing so I'm strengthening my own rights as an American. (Writing this I now feel very patriotic.)
  • Here's another perspective for you to consider about this, whatever your personal orientation: What part of "We the people of the United States...secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." do you not understand? That soundes pretty d*mned all inclusive, to me. Why the h*ll should there even BE any discussion over the rights and liberties of ANYONE is beyond me. 'nuff said.
  • I'm not gay but it is important to me as I have gay friends and I see how they go through crap for what?-Being in love! It saddens me to see them being discriminated against for simply loving someone of the same sex. They're loving someone- not being cold and making this world worse to live in like the people who put bans on gay marriage- I believe this is against our constitutional human rights. Today, marriage is undertaken by many non-religious people as to them it still symbolises the commitment and love they hold for one another (just without the religious side)and so I do not see why gay couples should be banned from marriage for 'religious reasons' if atheists are permitted to marry. It's all so ridiculous. Of course I am aware that discrimination against gay's is not only limited to the marriage issue, but that is a great part of it so I used that as an example.
