  • Being a member of a minority doesn't make someone open minded or kind-hearted. Minorities can be just a closed minded and bigoted as anyone else.
  • I think that it is hypocritical for someone of a racial minority to be homophobic. Someone who has faced bigotry themselves should be less willing to discriminate. After all, we (I am a member of a racial minority) know what it feels like. That does not change the fact that people are people and people naturally discriminate.
  • Every humanbeing has the capacity to be racist, homophobic, sexist or just plain biased in any way. Sometimes I think minorities use their history of being pushed down to manipulate the majority into being scared of them.
  • Why would a person of a racial majority be homophobic? "Racial minorities" are only "racial minorities" in certain countries eg Blacks are the racial MAJORITY in Africa and Hispanics the majority in Mexico. In those countries caucasians would be the minority. So .. I think this is a non-sensical quaestion. Sexual orientation cannot be compared with race. The way the second part of the question is framed to me suggests a presumption of superiority on the part of the questioner, which prima facie suggests racist tendencies. I hope I am wrong? Please explain!
  • I think everyone is capable of being biased... the scenario you posit is entirely credible... I don't think it would indicate selfishness as such .. more .. bigotry. I would hope such a person would see that they were guilty of complete hypocrisy. Bigotry is bigotry .. whether it is based on religion, race or sexual orientation. Thanks for a truly thought-provoking question! ;-)
  • I don't get why ANYONE is homophobic, especially people who know about inequality.
  • Being a racial minority doesnt somehow make you automatically born with understanding of other situaitons. Just because youve been subjected to dscrimination doesnt mean you'll understand the other half's discrimination (espcially when its based on sexually rights and not racial). Those are two compeltly differnt things. You can hide sexual preference (to some extent), you can't (usually) hide what race you are. If, just because a racial minoritiy dlt with discrimination was suppose to (and did) understand all discrimination, you wouldnt see so many black/hispanic, black/asian, hispanic/asian disagreements among their communities. It's kind of like syaing, just because someone if the racial majority, they shouldnt be able to understand others hardships and should only enjoy mainstream/traditional things. Being a racial minority isnt the deciding facto rin how forgiving, nice, understanding you will be. That has more to do with enviornment/upbringing (not regarding race, but simple human relations).
