  • Natural How did they know if an iceburg would be there
  • it was a natural disaster and it was a human accident
  • it was a man made disaster
  • A natural disaster is usually defined as something like an earthquake, tsunami, et cetera. The iceberg on its own is not the cause of a natural disaster. It wasn't really man made either. I think it's best classified as an accident.
  • It is difficult to judge something that happened many years ago. At that time technology was not so advanced and ships were not equipped with radars. Icebergs are piece of ice floating and sometime they move. We can also say that the designers did not predict a such accident in order to reinforce the structure of the ship. Let it be an accident.
  • If it weren't for the man-made ship, would any of those people have been within 500 miles of an iceberg?
  • I consider the sinking of the Titanic a man-made natural disaster. It happened because the ship hit the iceberg. The iceberg did not appear out of nowhere and destroy the ship. Man is part of nature, however. Man built the ship and man wrecked the ship, so I consider it a natural disaster in that respect.
  • I think most "disasters" are man made. If we put aside the "man is part of nature" view, most of what we call disatsters are a result of humans trying to act above nature (ie building near fault lines, below sea level, etc.)
  • The Titanic was more than a disaster. it was more than an accident. it was more than not knowing better. it was more than the rules and policies of sea life. it was more than humankind at its best, worst, ugly, and beautiful. it was more than being un-safe. it was more than the 2 classes Rich and poor. it was more than anyone today and ever image. But we are still intrigued by the people and the story and chances are we will be for a long time. Circumstances we hope to have learned from
  • If someone drives a car into a mountain is it a 'man-made' or 'natural' disaster? Same thing. It was caused by human action/ negligence. If the navigators had been doing their job - to avoid hazards - the disaster would not have occurred. The iceberg was just THERE minding its own business.
