And on 'the other end', like "retirement community" and "nursing home"? ;-)

My youngest son was diagnosed with Autism when he was three. He went to preschool where he learned his ABC's before entering into Kindergarten, as well as his numbers and a few CVC words to write and read. Even though I homeschooled my older two, I was ill-equipped when it came to him and his special needs. I thank God that he got into the program he did. Initially, his diagnosis was that he would probably never talk or learn how to read. As a seventh grader, he now reads at a third grade level...still well behind, but if we hadn't sent him to preschool, I don't know where he would have been.

not exactly. you can't send a 1 yr old to a preschool.

Babysitting keeps a kid alive and fed. Preschool includes education. A good daycare includes preschool activities and is not just babysitting.
-
No. Daycare is a better name for babysitting, but group babysitting. Preschool is suppose to be educational, and was when I went to it.

Not if they are going to the right preschool. My daughter went to a montessori preschool. They had an actual curriculum. They taught her a lot and it totally changed my perception on "preschools"

I hope not! They should be educating your child and preparing them for Kindergarten. Although, I do not think preschool is necessary. Children can be prepared and educated at home for kindergarten as well. It's just a matter of what works best for your family.

I don't know, but it's best to really find out what happens there during a typical day (or week or month) before subjecting your child to them for any length of time. Children's minds are so vulnerable to misinformation and views--especially at that age.
