In the U.S.? I would have to say "no." Um...such a preposterous plan would = very few dates would = very little possibility of your gene pool being sustained would = your family line dies out. Well, biology just doesn't work that way! Stupid people are weeded out by Darwinian mechanisms.

Probably the threat. Women are afraid of men sometimes, and they are unwilling to stand up for themselves, so they just cooperate. Your question is a little too much of a generalization against men. It's only a select few that actually resort to assault or battery(speaking of the population as a whole). Women are actually more likely to dominate men, though it may not be through violence. Whether you believe it or not, men try very hard to please women. They like to see women happy. This leads to them being more likely to cooperate and do what they ask.
