  • I say this with in all fairness and tolerance to the Mormon religion: no. Absolutely none. That was something Joseph Smith came up with. He claimed, of course, to have been visited by an angel who told him that and other beliefs of the Mormon religion, but there is no Biblical support for the claim.
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints interprets many of the following scriptures to the effect that they imply attainable godhood. Council of gods (Zech 3) Assembly of gods (Psalms 82) We can become born (generated) Sons of God (John 1:12, 13) Becoming gods (John 10:25-39) We can be like God (1 John 3:1-3) We can be partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4) We can be joint-heirs (Rom 8:17) We can have full union with the Father (John 17:11, 21-23) We can be above the angels (1 Cor 6:3) We can sit on God's throne (Rev 3:21) There may be others.
  • I don't need to cite the scriptural evidence, as it has already been posted. Just think of it this way. Do a dog's offspring grow up to be cats? Do a chicken's offspring grow up to be goats? Acts 17:29 "We are the offspring of God." So what do you think the answer is? We will never be equal to or superior to God. He will always be our God, whom we will worship and serve forever. But we are gods (lowercase) in embryo, and this is our divine nature. Only Christ can lift us up, exalt us, and set us on His throne: To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (Revelation 3:21) It is 100% scriptural. To deny this is to ignore the mountain of scriptural evidence to the contrary. We cannot pick and choose which of Christ's teachings to follow and which to ignore.
  • Well, first of all there is ample evidences of scripture that support the claim, one of the things i wish people to understand is that these beliefs that the scripture point out in no way even hint to say that in becoming liek God, we will dethrone him or ever get higher than he is. This misunderstanding is what makes people uneasy and unbelieving. The scripture that i really hold close is when Christ says "be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect." now would Christ give us that commandment if there was no possible way to achieve it. That would be confusion, and we all know the scripture about that. Through the grace and mercy of Christ's sufffering and example there is a way to become perfect even as the Father is perfect. (John 14:6) On another note to go more into detail of one of the scriptures that Kim pointed out in Romans 8:16-17 it talks about become heirs with Christ, now if you have any questions what an heir is, it is a person entiled to the FULNESS of him Whom the subject is the heir. I hope this helps.
  • As far as being gods...no one knows for sure. As far as being like God....aren't we products of our earthly parents? Something to think about?
  • I'm not sure how I feel about interpretting the verses provided in a previous answer to mean that we can or will become gods. Biblical evidence seems more clear that we were created in God's "likeness" for His own eternal glory and will dwell with Him in one heaven, praising Him for eternity. Also, it seems that (as we are talking strictly about biblical doctrine excluding Mormon doctrine) one God created the Heavens and the Earth - he did not inherit this world as a result of spiritual advancement. So, my answer would be, no, the Bible does not support the idea that we can be gods of our own worlds someday. Please correct me if I have made any presumptions. I mean only to answer the question. Genesis 1:1 Isaiah 43:7-11 Psalm 23:6 Psalm 90:2 Isaiah 44:6 1 Thess. 4:17
  • Joseph Smith can up with this doctrine shortly before his death in his "King Follett" discourse. Other spiritual groups and authors before Smith's time had the same type of teaching, "eternal progression" and dieification. The scriptures cited came be taken literaly or metaphorically. To more truely understand the Bible, I have sought to get the Hebrew and Jewish thought of scriptures like these.
