There are these ancient devices, known only to the most learned of scholars wise in the ways of the world as it once existed. They require no power, they never crash, and they miraculously never suffer from slow loading, or file 404 errors or other such difficulties. They have no moving parts. Despite the technologically crude nature of these devices, they incredibly manage to store all manner of information, and make it available for instant retrieval by anyone, without needing to load the proper drivers or recognition software. They are completely self-contained, and offer their knowledge to anyone skilled enough in the black art of using them. They're called "books."
