Yes, sometimes I fall into the trap, it's impossible not to feel a little guilty. When it becomes a common ocurrence and I can identify a pattern I try to put a stop to it. The "oh, poor me" routine gets old pretty fast.

Nope, not anymore. I've heard each and every possible sob story at least once

Uh, yeah. I never want to offend anyone or hurt their feelings or tell them "no". I've been like this since childhood. I have sat through many hours of therapy, gone through many antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds dealing with this!

No. My ex-wife pretty much burned all the guilt trips out of me. In fact, the surest and quickest way to turn me totally off on anything is to try a guilt trip. I don't mind charities or people who solicit donations for them. But probably the biggest charity turn off for me was the several years around the Holiday season when they would have those starving kids commercials on TV while they played John Lennon's guilt trip song (Happy Christmas)...the one that starts off "So this is Christmas, and what have you done?" The whole tone of the song combined with the images made for a massive guilt trip message that tried to make me feel bad if I didn't donate. If I give charity, then I do it of my own free will. It's not charity otherwise. That said, since the holiday season is once again upon us, here's my own charity plug: Donate what you can and where you can if it's within your power. Your gift is priceless to those who have little or nothing!

No, it just makes me angry. I hate it when people manipulate you to make you feel sorry for them, part with money, etc. It used to make me feel depressed, now it justmakes me want to argue with them. I know that makes me sound cold/horrible but it should be up to the individual to make a decision of wether to help or not.
