Why is it one of the greatest question(most points) in here is about grabbing a book and flip to some page and read a certain line, but why not questions that is highly intellectual, philosophical?

Because one has to think in order to come up with a good answer to an intellectual question. The kind of question you mentioned takes no thought and is an easy way to get points.

Because its amusing and everyone enjoys amusing questions whilst not everyone bothers with intellectual/philosophical questions

cause this site is no longer about rewarding people for being intellectual and smart and just putting thoughts into answers. It's all about rewarding non sense (not that that question was) basically. When I joined people could say "I am depressed" and get a lot of well meaning answers to problems but now nobody seems to care anymore..everyone wants to have fun and forget that life is NOT all about having fun..though their is nothing wrong with fun.

Nobody knows why that question is so popular -- I've talked to the user who posted it, and she doesn't know either! But plenty of "serious" topics also get a lot of attention. "What is the meaning of life?" (http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1) has 646 answers, some of them quite thoughtful. But the fact remains that most questions posted here are either purely social ("what's your favorite color") or unoriginal variations of questions that have been asked many times. Coming up with really good questions is challenging, not that many people can do it.

this site has gone a bit downhill. I recently found sodahead.com which seems a lot more about intellectual opinions than the social mindless stuff that appears on here.

Other thoughts on this is that many of the ABers come to this site to get away from the seriousness of their lives and world. Some of the more challenging questions have received some excellent answers that I could not add anything more to.

The reason this is like this is simple. When you ask an intellectual question the answer is based on fact. Once that answer is given it would be senseless to keep posting the same answer. anything less than fact will get you blasted with down-rates. The simple questions are mainly based on opinion so many answers will fit because it is based on personal experiences. It only makes sense they get more attention and the more attention the more points it is going to get. This is why you see less and less intellectual questions asked is because these websites feed on peoples desire to connect on a personal level. A way to see we are not alone in this world and if by chance we learn a little something thats a good thing.
