Since moths are mostly nocturnal butterflies, their movement functions are rather different. Most butterflies need the warmth of the Sun to fly, but moths have to rely on physical strength. Which is why they're fatter and appear a whole lot less elegant than butterflies, but there are a lot of them that are very pretty. Of course not all of them are...like the third picture, but most moths rely on their physical appearance for either stealth, or to frighten would be predators. Same for butterflies...they're the same, but are contrasted by living at night and the day, which forces them to both adapt slightly different traits.
