If you get an everyday Microsoft computer the only problem would be the graphics card, they don't have very good starters so you'll need a new one.

I did a test build of the Alienware Area51 m15x. Add the 512MB video card and UXGA screen and you're at $1499 I'd add RAM too (or instead of UXGA screen?) there are obviously other possibilities but I'm not going to do your shopping for you :-)
