Not sure what you mean but years ago with the old TV's we used to have a converter box for the cable. Now the converters are built in to the TV.

If you have cable, you don't need the converter. It's only necessary if you're using an antenna to pick up TV signals via airwaves. The airwaves are going to be broadcast as a digital signal instead of the traditional analog signal, the converter merely converts the digital signal to analog for TVs that are older or don't have a digital-to-analog converter already built in. I bought one a couple of months ago, it works really well. I also picked up a special digital antenna instead of the old-fashioned "rabbit ears" I had been using. Picture is very clear, but I find the major problem is that the digital signals tend to be "all or nothing" as opposed to analog where you can tolerate varying degrees of noise and picture quality.
