Overcome your fears and just do it... You have to look at it this way: You are exactly what you are. Therfore, you will be exactly who you make yourself. If you want to be a traveler, go do it. If you can't bring yourself to do it, then it probably isn't really for you.

My very shy,introverted brother worked on cruise ships.He loved it.He gave me advise about working on the ships though..... Only work in the day care area or as a musician.Any thing else & you do not get time for yourself and you make less money!The day care section makes lots cause the parents tip you like crazy to watch their kids.He loved to get off ship and take a cab to the local pub and just soak in the culture.

save up a small amount of cash, apply for some holiday working visas and buy a round the world ticket and go travelling by yourself. I can guarantee you will meet tons of lovely people and have a fantastic time.

Consider joining an organization like Peace Corps or Doctors without Borders and volunteer your time and efforts for others.
